Projects

We seek to facilitate cross-pollination across different disciplines to expand on aesthetics, materiality, functionality and the study of clay.

We collaborate with a range of practitioners working with different mediums on a range of projects. Every quarter, we invite resident artists to use our studio space, to bring these ideas to its fullest expression. We hold open houses to share these results from our collaborations and open up the space to bring different communities together.

Caught Flat Footed
Mike HJ Chang
2019

Points of Articulation is Solamalay Namasivayam’s first major retrospective exhibition in Singapore.

Alongside the main exhibition, four contemporary local artists — Mike HJ Chang, Alvin Ong, Jason Wee and Milenko Prvački, participated in an adjacent exhibition to respond to Namasivayam’s numerous works.

Mike HJ Chang’s work included in Points of Articulation is a sculpture entitled Caught Flat Footed. It is produced with technical help from Pinch Ceramics Studio. The work is sculpted with terracotta clay and porcelain slip, finished with a gradating clear glaze and mounted on a grey slanted wood panel. Caught Flat Footed is a comical depiction of remembering incidents of stepping on sharp objects with one’s bare feet. It combines a simplified depiction of human anatomy and loose line carvings to illustrate the notion of softness, weight, elasticity, and clumsiness.
